Through a comprehensive needs assessment led by Dr. Ilias, SDA identified three critical priorities for not only its members but the deaf community in Pakistan: social engagement, vocational development, and sports activities. These community-driven insights now shape SDA’s mission, guiding in building SDA into a nationwide platform that empowers Pakistan’s hearing and speech-impaired community through inclusive social, educational, and sporting opportunities.

Sports Committee:

Through a community-wide survey, SDA highlighted a critical need for sports activities for both its male and female members. A major accomplishment for SDA is the establishment of the Deaf Cricket Team which is registered in the Pakistan Cricket Board. SDA’s Sports Committee is responsible for organizing sports activities and events for its members in Islamabad, or financing its members to attend sports events within Pakistan such as cricket, football, bowling competition and events.

Social Committee:

SDA members, and the deaf community overall, identified social activities/events as a key need for them given the barriers many face in networking and engaging within their community. As such, SDA’s Social Committee is focused on arranging, financing, and organizing regular social activities for its members such as field trips. Ramadan and Eid events, and informal gatherings at SDA.

Education Committee:

Educational and training opportunities are a key priority for SDA and therefore, the Education Committee provides vocational and educational opportunities for its members such as computer literacy training, arts and sewing classes, and CV writing classes.
